PROJECTION
Fine Art Print by Inna Etuvgi
“We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are.”
In this work, I explore the moment a personality forms—like a drop of dew gaining its surface tension. Once we become an individual "I," we inevitably become a lens that projects its own order onto the world.
In the photo, the hexagonal flare is a projection of the mind. In the face of the world’s chaos, our consciousness desperately seeks patterns to soothe its innate anxiety. We impose geometry on the organic; we impose our rules on the unknown. We project our expectations onto the stars, the forests, and each other, creating a "sanctuary of order" where there is only flow.
The personality and its projection go together from the very first moment. And projection is our shield — the beautiful, orderly illusions we create just to feel a little more at home in the wild :)
The Context:
This piece is part of the collection "InnerSpace Dreamscapes: The World Beyond Aphantasia." As an artist with aphantasia, Etuvgi uses macro photography of dewdrops to visualize invisible internal states. Here, the dewdrop acts as a metaphor for the "me-idea" floating in an inner world filled with abstract forms and colored with emotions, while the geometric flare reveals how our mind structures the abstract flow of emotion into a tangible, orderly reality.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Inna Etuvgi is a Swedish-Chukchi artist whose work defines the concept of Cybernetic Animism—a bridge between indigenous Arctic intuition and technical precision. Raised in a remote village in Chukotka and trained in technical cybernetics, Etuvgi explores the shared "soul" of natural ecosystems and digital algorithms.
Living with Aphantasia—the inability to visualize mental images—Etuvgi uses her camera and Generative AI as a "visual prosthesis" to externalize deep emotional landscapes. Her macro photography magnifies nature’s smallest details, urging a shift from a human-centered worldview to one of interconnectedness.
Internationally recognized as an Arte Laguna Prize finalist (Venice) and a recipient of the Swedish Arts Grants Committee grant, Etuvgi’s work is held in private collections worldwide. As art critic Tabish Khan notes: “Her work transports us to other worlds—both real and imaginary, but always in harmony with nature.”
