One of my fondest childhood memories was the potato harvest. On golden October days, with bright skies and warm sunshine, we dug potatoes out of the ground and filled baskets with them. Those were the days when my grandmother made the rather long walk to bring us freshly baked plum cake during our well-deserved break. The aroma of the warm, delicious cake, the smell of the sun-warmed earth, the muscles strained from the hard work—these sensory impressions are combined in this image. Above all these impressions is one very essential feeling: the certainty of a sheltered childhood, the feeling of family.
