A New Dawn at Portland Head Light
Francois de Melogue
2025 | Archival pigment print on professional luster paper | 25x17
Morning arrives with a slow, deliberate grace at Cape Elizabeth. Before the paths stir with the day's first travelers, the lighthouse stands in solitary communion with the Atlantic. The sky hesitates between night and day, a thin ribbon of peach lifting over waves that relentlessly work the dark, jagged stone below.
"The rocky ledge runs far into the sea, And on its outer point, some miles away, The Lighthouse lifts its light-house high." — Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
This lighthouse has been a steadfast sentinel since the era of George Washington, its light once fueled by whale oil and now by a modern pulse. It has witnessed the slow passage from wooden hulls to steel, yet in this breathless first light, that vast history feels intimate rather than heavy. It is simply a steady white beam—one more turn of the lens—gently guiding us into the promise of a new day.
Quality is about longevity. I use a high-resolution Canon R5 Mark II to capture every detail of the Vermont landscape. Each piece is printed in-studio using professional-grade Canon Pro-1100 and Epson P9000 systems with archival pigment inks on natural cotton paper to create a print that will last for generations.
Print only, with a 1/4 inch wide white bordering for convenient matting and (or) framing
