There is something almost impossible about lily ponds - how they hold both sky and water at once. This painting began with that feeling and the way water seems to glow from within.

Maybe it’s impossible not to think of Monet when painting water lilies, but for me this piece became less about impressionism and more about atmosphere: soft light, silence, and that feeling of standing near still water on a warm morning.
