Original artwork description
Play II is one of several works stemming from the series "Public, Private, Secret,” which relates to the three separate areas, sometimes overlapping, which we inhabit in our daily lives.
This series was started at the end of 2019 and well before the Covid 19 Pandemic started, but whilst working on this body of work Parr found her practice, not surprisingly, affected by this strange and difficult time.
The series has also been greatly inspired by playing with her 2 grandchildren, both born during the Pandemic.
As she continued on with this series, it become a perfect escapism, a freedom to experiment, explore and play with the narrative of our shifted reality.
She employs dark saturated colour and intense often playful mark making to produce work that sometimes references the problems of the real world, and sometimes avoids it.
The painting is signed on the canvas side and ready to hang, and shows some signs of the painting process to the canvas sides.
