"Petals, Poppies and Wildflowers" was inspired by quiet moments in my sunny garden in Derbyshire where surrounded by nearby fields and woodland, we often have a cool, refreshing breeze. I keep a variety of potted plants, and over time, seeds drifting in on the wind bring delightful surprises and unexpected flowers that bloom in vibrant colours, creating a natural tapestry of beauty.
My garden is also a haven for bees, their gentle hum and constant motion adding to the peaceful atmosphere. Watching them busily gather pollen inspired the romantic essence of this original painting, an expressive, one-of-a-kind celebration of a favourite subject.
To create this painting, I layered deep, dark tones with light, luminous colours to produce bold contrasts and evoke the scent and vitality of summer flowers carried on the breeze. Using gestural brushstrokes and a range of mark-making techniques, I’ve created an impressionistic style that captures the movement and spontaneity of a wildflower meadow.
The piece is painted on a deep-edge canvas, with white-painted sides, and is ready to hang without the need for a frame.
