Original artwork description
This is an oil painting on linen on panel, 20x16 inches. It's based on a royalty-free photograph I purchased the use of from . There it is identified as copyrighted by Martateron, but I do not know the photographer's name otherwise. While I intended my work to be representational, since I am not the photographer, this is a representation of a representation, interpreted, selected. I love peonies, and grow varietals exactly like these, and I collect blue-and-white Chinese vases and vessels. It is the arc of the flowers, the way the curve of the splayed fan rounds the base of the vase, the pattern of curved lines, and, of course, the dramatic contrast of lights and darks, that drew me to the photographer's still life and made me want to paint this myself. It is framed in a gold (wood) plein air frame, that adds 3 inches (7.6 cm) all around. Signed and dated in verso, this work ships with a digitally-registered Certificate of Authenticity.
