These peonies come up every year in the garden despite my neglect. From an unlikely patch of border, every spring some new shoots emerge, and then within no time a dense bush of greenery develops, with masses of these purple flowers. The flowers themselves are very short lived, and once picked, start falling after just a couple of days. So I had to work quickly here. Dunked into a globe vase, I wanted to put them in quite a formal setting, a little austerity to contrast with the vibrant colour.
