Acrylic on canvas. Ready to hang.
What is the difference between eyes that possess a gaze and those that do not?
To look is not simply to see. Seeing is passive, inevitable, almost mechanical. To look, on the other hand,
implies a decision. The one who looks selects, delimits, carves out a fragment of the world and elevates it
above the rest. In that seemingly simple gesture there is a
silent renunciation: everything that falls outside their attention ceases to exist, at least for
a moment.
The gaze, therefore, is not innocent. It is an act of power.
Choosing where to rest one's eyes necessarily implies exclusion.
