Rebecca has created an extensive collection of Undergound-themed works, revealing the hidden beauty of these often-overlooked subterranean spaces.
In a departure from the architectural celebration of many of her other works, in this piece Rebecca has focused on surfaces and textures. The visible corrosion and decay of the Bakerloo line tunnels at Paddington station betray the reality of this harsh environment: century-old walls holding back the wet, subterranean earth. The vivid roundel and sleek advertising posters provide a sharp contrast with the peeling and cracking surfaces all around. This distinction has been enhanced by using two different methods of applying the paint - brush and palette knife.
