Owls belong, perhaps, to the most mysterious birds. The hidden nocturnal way of life, the "intelligent" look, the silent flight, and the frightening voice impressed the human imagination. Owls were revered, and dedicated to gods and heroes, they became a symbol of wisdom. In many fairy tales and legends, owls act as advisors, insightful birds, messengers, and carriers of unusual knowledge. The Slavs attribute the role of the keeper of underground wealth to the owl. It was believed that owls have powers that are not available to other animals. This is one of the reasons that they were indispensable companions of magicians and healers. Yes, the wizard Merlin, a character in the legends of King Arthur, was always depicted with an owl on his shoulder.
