Original artwork description:

“Out of Oxygen” is a bold, conceptual still life in oil on linen that explores themes of fragility and containment in contemporary life. This work appeared on the spur of the moment and was inspired by Walter Vaes's paintings. The artwork transforms a typical tilapia fish in a plastic bag into a striking metaphor for our modern environment.

Initially, I intended to depict an image of our contemporary everyday life as a still life with a fish. Shortly, the idea came up: it was a tilapia, painted into the store-packed plastic bag.

The painterly realism contrasts here with symbolic tension — the translucent plastic, the living form, and the sense of suffocation all converge in one image. This piece speaks to both visual beauty and deeper reflection, making it ideal for collectors of modern realism, conceptual fine art, or thought-provoking still lifes.
