Otium domi (2024)Oil painting
by Antonio Mele

1 Artist Review

£4,763

Original artwork description

The painting depicts a woman sitting on the sofa at home. After finishing her household chores, she sat down to read a book and drink a herbal tea, but had to stop to breastfeed her son.
The work is made with natural pigments mixed with linseed and safflower oil on canvas and mounted on a wooden frame, chassis.
The work is the first for the new "Otium" cycle that will deal with the theme of leisure as the ancient Romans understood it, that is, a creative leisure, a moment of study, personal and spiritual enrichment, which was opposed to the shop, that is, to activities connected to work and material gain. However, highlighting the difficulties and contradictions that this concept has in our time.
