Orford is a pretty village on the Suffolk coast noted for its 11th Century castle and church. The castle was a major coastal defence at the time but over the centuries vast quantities of shingle and silt has been washed down the east coast and formed Orford Ness, a spit land a couple of miles long on which animals have been grazed, radar tested and more recently atomic bomb testing was conducted. We stayed in a rental cottage between lockdowns on 2020 and I sketched this scene then added a wash a little later. I have tried to illustrate the tranquility of the area together with the clean, clear air.
Please note the actual size is 28x17.5 cm
