Original artwork description
My client wanted me to create a copy of "On The Wings Of Love" but replace the background with black instead of blue, and frame in a white glazed deep box frame, the same as the blue version.
So I created three watercolour paintings of different shapes, each one lighter than the first, with gold ink and a little acrylic.
Each of the three dimensional butterflies is punch-cut from the watercolour paintings and decoratively arranged in changing colours to form the word LOVE in the centre of the frame.
They are attached to heavy black card and framed within a white glazed deep box frame.
The result is a vibrant and colourful modern relief design revealing individual butterflies on closer inspection, with different shadows cast from the up-turned wings depending on the direction of the light.
