Original artwork description
My starting point for this painting was the silhouette of a woman seen from behind. Like Dorothy, she walks toward an unknown destination guided by the promise of discovery. This original work combines acrylic painting, collage with cut papers and a narrow strip of fabrics incorporated into the waistband of the skirt. The figure, walking away from the viewer invites us to follow her along an invisible path leading into the forest. Very early in the creative process, I chose a vivid yellow for the shoes. This striking color contrasts boldly with blue, grey and green tones of the surrounding landscape. The paper and fabric fragments embedded in the skirt enrich the surface with texture, while the overall composition hovers somewhere between tale and reality.
