‘Ode To Maeve (2026) Original Mixed-media Painting by Holly Wojahn

This Fun, Flowery, Full Painting is entitled in honor of my fourth Grandchild, due in a few months’ time. I hadn’t anticipated that I’d be welcoming another Grandbaby, so this Surprising little Miracle has me in a perpetual state of Glee! This painting- which began with Big, Random Blooms, grew along the way to include some smaller painted Flowers and Birds, cut out of a few old sketchbooks, and collaged in to the piece. The challenge of fitting the bits and pieces painted on Heavy Paper, into the already Full composition in a way that truly complimented without infringing upon what already comprised this Image, made the process more interesting. Ending as a Happy picture filled with Color and loads of Patterns, I decided to honor the Child we are so excited to welcome, by using the Name that’s been chosen for her; “Maeve.” The edges of this canvas are painted, so the piece can be hung unframed if preferred.
