Ochre Field (2025)Oil painting
by Francesca Currie

£1,600

Original artwork description

These paintings are rooted in landscapes I’ve spent time in and connected with, places where light, weather, and land shape a slower, quieter rhythm of life. These environments carry a sense of constancy, where time is felt through season and change rather than pace. I’m drawn to how land holds memory, both personal and collective, and how this presence is conveyed through atmosphere and light. Each work begins with observation but moves toward abstraction, translating place into gesture and tone. These paintings explore connection to the land and the passing of time; each brushstroke becomes a way of remembering a feeling. Trained in traditional oil painting, I use classical methods to create contemporary images. The process mirrors the land itself, sometimes harsh, often transformative and I’m interested in how painting can hold space for stillness and calm in an ever-changing world.
