My next Move

My next move, even before a drawing like ‘Nude – 07-10-20 (sold)’, was a return to straight lined cubism again. The reason was that the body looked rather skinny and showed edgy plains in the first place. So I wondered if I could implement the same look (soft tonal gradients) but now using a rounder, even voluptuous model.

Incorporation

In order to create a feel of comfort, making the model feel at ease, I let the positive form of her body in some part directly run into the negative space around it. Moreover, I put the angle of diagonally placed geometrical forms in the same direction as the folds above the body. This induces both embedment and rhythym, almost to the point that her body mass starts desintegrating into folds around it.

Chiaroscuro

By now you all should know that I am not your regular cubist. I rejected the ‘multiperspectivism’ by Picasso and Braque a long time ago and feel more related to artists like Tamara de Lempicka among others. Perhaps I simply like the feel of depth better. Also stated in my ‘about’ section on this website I always follow the light. Hence my love for chiaroscuro in heavy doses. In my eyes a most beautiful creature like a woman is best served through the optical illusion of depth, caused by a great range of tonal values.
