In the series “Losing references” I investigate the importance of cultural references in our society. How do you feel when seeing the most representative personalities of the XX and XXI century deal with an inproper situation? The purpose of the series is to make people think about the relationship we all have with culture and cultural icons, and what could happen if we lose it/them, voluntarily or not.
“Norma Jeane’s secret garden” is an artwork in which Marylin Monroe (whose real name was Norma Jeane) is painted in a splatter situation. Here she is a serial killer, not the pop icon that we all know. The picture I chose to represent Marylin is a very popular one, to enhance the sense of misplacement. The artwork was painted in two different sessions: first in black and white, then adding colours with a watercolour-like technique.
