New Year's Eve (2023) Original Gouache Painting by Steve Potts

This small gouache was painted on New Year's Eve 2023. The subject is a stand of tall, slender trees, the kind that lean slightly as though they have grown up together and are used to each other's company. The warm golden grass in the foreground and the pale, hazy sky behind the canopy give the piece a particular quality of light, somewhere between late afternoon and the end of a season. Gouache is a medium I have experimented with from time to time and find pleasantly unpredictable. The blue-green of the trees here went somewhere I wasn't entirely expecting. A small painting, but one that seems to hold more space than its size would suggest. Commissions of similar subjects available on request.
