Original artwork description:

This painting is inspired by a mascaron of Neptune (Roman god of the sea) located in Bordeaux, France.
Carved ornaments for windows, doors, archways, fountains, or bridges, mascarons are frightening masks that ward off evil spirits or represent deities, elements, and seasons, displaying the attributes and character of a house. Originally from Italy, they arrived in France in the 16th century, and many can be found in Paris, Strasbourg, Bordeaux, and Nantes. I found it interesting to reinterpret these forgotten Renaissance gems in painting and show how they can find their place in our modern lives.
This painting is very understated, set against a light beige background, with shades of dark red to reinforce the impression of volume. Here, I preferred to emphasize the complexity of the design.
It's unique! Its edges are painted, so it doesn't require framing and it's ready to hang! It's signed on the front (bottom left), dated and named on the back, and comes with a certificate of authenticity.

Materials used:

Oil on canvas
