While creating this bison portrait, I aimed to express a quiet yet unshakable strength. Rather than emphasizing movement or scenery, I chose a frontal composition, allowing the viewer to confront the animal’s gaze directly and feel its presence, resilience, and dignity in stillness.
I used layered brushstrokes—scraping, sweeping, and stippling—to build the dense texture of the fur. Earth-toned colors dominate the palette, enriched with subtle warm and cool contrasts to shape form through light and shadow. The visible marks and splatters are intentional, preserving the raw energy of the painting process and echoing the primal power of the subject itself.
