Nature 584 — Abstract Cobalt Bloom (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Muriel Napoli

Original artwork description
There are paintings I approach with a clear idea, and others that arrive before I do. Nature 584 belongs to the second kind. I began with white and let the surface breathe — the gesso still open, the first layers of ink moving with the water rather than against it.
What emerged was this: a form that is unmistakably floral yet never botanical. White and pale grey petals that seem to unfold outward from a dark, charcoal core — dense with cobalt blue pigment that burst into the composition in scattered constellations, some tight and mineral, some wide and dispersed. Mint and seafoam green gathered in the folds almost without my asking.
I work with textured gesso as the ground, then fluid ink, water-reactive pigment, and acrylic in successive layers. In this piece, the water pulled the pigment in directions I guided but did not fully control — the filaments at the edges are the trace of that negotiation.
Stretched on a solid wooden frame with carefully finished 4 cm (1.5") deep edges — no frame needed. The work arrives ready to hang, signed on the back, with a certificate of authenticity. Packed with maximum protection for safe international shipping.
