Nap in the grass. (2026) Original Mixed-media Painting by Sophie HORS

50 x 100 x 3cm (unframed) / 50 x 100cm (actual image size)

£856.06

This painting was born from my attachment to depicting the poetry of everyday life: a summer scene where rest and reading come together. The original framing is the central element of my composition; I worked from a bird’s eye perspective, adopting the viewpoint of a person lying in the grass. In this way, I place the viewer inside the scene rather than in the position of a mere observer. It is a spontaneous image, much like a snapshot photograph, with the legs in the foreground, the partially cropped basket and the two young people in the distance. I painted the grass with thick textured brushstrokes using a large brush and I added cut paper elements to create the skirt, introducing a graphic dimension to the overall composition. My palette is bright and luminous, dominated by greens and contrasted with lighter tones.I also rendered the shifting shadows of the foliage in shades of blue. Closely connected to nature, this is a bold work that transforms an ordinary scene into an immersive experience.
