I am deeply moved by the strength and energy of the Himalayas. I have tried to convey my emotions with mountains offering viewers a sense of calmness and wonder inspired by the beauty of the natural world. The artwork is a landscape executed in a realism style, depicting the actual Mount Kailash.
The story and significance of the subject are rooted in mythology and geography: Mount Kailash is a 22,000 ft mountain range within the Himalayas, often referred to as the "Stairway to Heaven". The mountain holds immense spiritual importance across several religions. In Hinduism, it is considered the abode of Lord Shiva and his family (Shiv Parivar). The mountain is a sacred site for pilgrims from various faiths, including Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism who undertake the arduous kora (circumambulation) around it. For both Hindus and Buddhists, it is a profoundly significant, physical embodiment of a holy mountain. I have tried to capture the majestic, snow-covered peak rising against a clear blue sky, with rocky terrain and patches of vegetation in the foreground. The artwork focuses on the physical grandeur and natural beauty of this revered location.
