Original artwork description

I met Amy and her dog outside the National Portrait Gallery, London in 2018. Despite being cold and exhausted Amy still found time to talk about her situation and her past as well as how she saw her future. Her dog was her best friend and was very protective towards her.
I was struck by how invisible she seemed to so many as they walked by in their hundreds on their way to work.
I wanted to show a painting of contradictions such as the hard stone back ground against the soft blanket and clothing as well as the passing of time as the first autumn leaves hit the ground. The feather was an important aspect of the composition as I wanted to demonstrate how short and fleeting our stay is on this earth.
