Landscape of Auvergne, France.

This large canvas invites the viewer to contemplate the Sumène River in Haute-Loire, seen in the soft light of morning. The eye follows the current between the rocks, where the water slips, strikes, breaks apart, and begins again. The stones shape the passage, giving the river its rhythm.

Morning light seeps gently into the scene, catching the leaves, brightens some greens, darkens others, makes the water shimmer in places, and elsewhere leaves the freshness of a still-dense shadow. For me, the essential lies not in depicting a site, but in conveying a precise, almost physical sensation: the humidity of the air, the silence of the undergrowth, the coolness of the banks, the calm of a landscape still awakening.

The large format gives the viewer time to enter the breathing of the place. Nature appears here in its quiet strength, in its complexity, in that always slightly mysterious évidence that the real acquires when it is truly looked at.

This artwork will be packaged rolled in a tube. Once stretched by a framer, the white finish of the sides of the canvas allows, if you wish, a hanging without a frame.
