Landscape of Auvergne, France.

It is early spring in the upper Loire Valley, a fleeting moment when nature awakens after the harshness of the mountain winter. Here, the Loire reveals itself as wild, hemmed in, and ever-changing.

In the foreground lies a bed of pebbles, bearing witness to the age-old work of the water that wears away, polishes, and deposits them. The water, reflecting the spring sky, weaves a winding path between rocks and islets of greenery. The current glides, ripples, and comes alive as it meets obstacles.

On the opposite bank, there is an explosion of tender green willows and young shoots. Yet, far in the background to the left, the dark silhouettes of conifers pierce the sky. These Haute-Loire firs remind us that this river, seemingly so peaceful here, flows straight down from the mountain.

It is a painting of a specific moment and place, a celebration of the quiet beauty of the Loire's banks in their original setting.

Materials used:

This painting is painted with professional grade oil colors on a primed canvas. I prepare myself my canvases to create a texture specific to my painting needs and to insure them maximum longevity.
