Morning in Tavira (2024) Original Oil Painting by Clara Wilkinson

This oil on canvas painting was created in my studio in Brighton after returning from a trip to southern Portugal in 2024. The light and the colours of the flowers and trees in the mornings were warm and dappled against the incredible blue of the southern Mediterranean skies. I spent mornings sketching 'plein air' using my watercolours before the heat of the day increased.
This is an abstract expressionist painting made with gestural sweeping brush strokes and smaller more delicate areas painted with slimmer paintbrushes. I wanted there to be a contrast between the deep Manganese blue of the skies and the darker stronger reds and pinks of the flowers and foliage.
This painting has a lovely deep canvas (4cm) which has been painted white. The painting has been varnished by me using a professional matt varnish to protect the surface from dust and UV light.
At the back the canvas is signed and with fixtures for hanging straight on your wall. All of my paintings are fastidiously wrapped and packaged by me before promptly shipping.
