There’s something about my brain that only feels safe in absolutes.
Black or white. Yes or no. All in or all out.
It’s how I’ve survived, how I’ve made sense of a world that often feels chaotic, overstimulating, or just too much. But the truth is that kind of thinking comes at a cost. It flattens the complexity of life. It steals the middle ground, the soft spaces, the gray areas where real growth happens.
This painting is about what it’s like to live in a mind that deals in extremes.
The constant tug-of-war between certainty and curiosity.
The pressure to know instead of feel.
The fear that if something isn’t perfect, then it must be a failure.
I’ve spent so long stuck in this loop.
If I can’t do everything, I do nothing.
If one thing goes wrong, the whole day is ruined.
If someone doesn’t like me, I must be unlovable.
But I’m learning that truth isn’t binary. That discomfort isn’t danger. That I can be healing and still struggling. Happy and sad. Strong and scared. I’m allowed to be a living contradiction.
This painting lives in that in-between space. It’s where my rigid patterns loosen. Where nuance is allowed to breathe. Where color replaces certainty, and softness interrupts the spiral.
Because life isn’t black and white.
And neither am I.
