Edit
one of a series of 10 large 'moonscapes [100x80cm] [i also did anumber of smaller ones 45x40cm as studies
though they have no more 'meaning' than magritte's castles in the sky or dali's bent clocks, they are influenced i guess by what the last man on the moon, eugene cernan, said: 'we went to the moon and discovered the earth'. the sight of that fragile blue bubble kicked off the whole environment thing, and each painting in some ways is earth seeking, earth longing.
technically they are oils on canvas, 100x80cm. the sky is the blackest black of infinity, priming the canvas with theatre matt black then using black oil with a lot of linseed oil. the lunar surface uses only black and white, no other colour, to express it's sterility, it’s deadness.. the 'objects' use artist quality oils where possible, to intensify the colours.
