Volodymyr the Great is a national hero of Ukraine. Christened Russia in 988. Established the Kiev metropolis of the Constantinople Patriarchate. Expanded the borders of the capital of Kiev, built the Church of the Tithes (996). The first of the Russian princes began to make their own gold coin. Assumed Volodymyr (988), Pereyaslav (992) and other cities. He used a personal sign "trident", which became the emblem of Ukraine in the twentieth century.
