Moment of joy (2026) Original Pastel Drawing by Polina Doroshenko

60 x 70cm

£735.15

This work explores a moment of joy, playfulness, and openness through the depiction of unclothed bodies. For me, it is not about the body as an object, but about naturalness and the sense of being fully oneself without self-consciousness.

I am particularly interested in how this state of emotional and physical openness often becomes more pronounced during periods of pregnancy and motherhood, when perception and feeling are heightened. At the same time, the work speaks more broadly about returning to a natural state of being and accepting oneself as one is.

I am drawn to moments that feel slightly blurred in memory, yet still carry a strong emotional warmth. This piece is an attempt to capture that sensation of joy suspended in time.

Created with dry pastel on paper, the composition uses a limited palette of deep tones, warm ochre, and indigo. The soft, velvety surface of the pastel gives the work a tactile presence that translates well into interior spaces.

pastel, pencil
