Minotaur, 2020
Acrylic on canvas

This painting is part of a series inspired by the ancient myth of the Minotaur, approached here from a psychological and symbolic perspective. Rather than depicting the creature as a terrifying beast imprisoned within a stone labyrinth, I imagined the Minotaur as a solitary and reflective presence, a being wandering through the labyrinths of his own memory and thoughts.

In the painting, the Minotaur appears as a mysterious humanoid figure whose pale face and subtle horns emerge quietly from a dense field of dark, moving vegetation. The tall grasses form a kind of organic labyrinth, suggesting inner landscapes of memory, solitude, and contemplation. He seems partially hidden within this environment, as if the labyrinth were no longer built of walls and corridors but of consciousness itself.

The deep black background surrounding the figure evokes a sense of vast emptiness and silence. It becomes a symbolic space of solitude, almost a metaphysical void in which the Minotaur exists. Yet this is not a tragic creature. This Minotaur carries a calm, enigmatic presence.

In imagining this figure, I was also inspired by the Minotaur described by Jorge Luis Borges in his story The House of Asterion, where the creature appears not as a monster, but as a solitary being inhabiting an infinite labyrinth.

Through gestures of color and movement, I sought to transform the myth into an introspective vision, presenting the Minotaur as a poetic symbol of solitude, consciousness, and the hidden labyrinths within the human mind.
