MIDCENTURY REVIVAL
As a “baby boomer” I consider myself to be MIDCENTURY. Growing up in Queens, NY my family spent many days at the 1964 World’s Fair. Official colors were orange blue and white, forever etched on my memory, the hit song was I GET AROUND by the BEACH BOYS. But there was also Nina Simone and Charlie Parker, whose sounds better reflect the design in my painting. It was also the space age, with lava lamps and shag carpets.
I decided to use the official world fair colors and marks similar to lava lamp fluidity, and the visualization of jazz riffs.
In acrylic and collage, on canvas, this work is a midcentury revival.
