I have often combined my love of travel with painting, but few places are as beautiful and hospitable as Barra de Navidad, a coastal village on the western shore of Mexico where the small local population mingles with tourists and artists. The vibrant tropical colors of the Gulf coast of Mexico inspired my non-objective painting, Mexican RoadTrip. A unifying theme in my art is conveying the feeling or mood evoked by the subject, and this painting reflects a sense of exuberance. In style, all sections of the painting are transected by strong, heavy, black lines, with vivid bursts of color. The painting captures the feeling of the life and colors of Mexico using heavy textures, washes and linear overlays. This artwork was displayed in a curated exhibit, “Inside Out,” at Praksis Gallery in Chicago, Illinois.
