Mermaid and her Octopus (2026)Linocut by Mariann Johansen-Ellis

She lives a charmed life, waited on hands and tail, by her attendants! I have chosen a vintage map over the Greenland coast for this print and the colours of the map complements the print. The maps are always used, I really like the wear and tear for the look of the print.

A large blue and white linocut looks deceptively simple, but can actually be right there with the most difficult, to make an image really work when you only have 2 "colors" means you have to look at things in a different way.
All my linocuts are handprinted by me, the artist,
and I sign, title and number each print.
"Mermaid" is printed as a monoprint as all maps are different.
when the mermaid is printed on a map, you always receive the print in the photo as all maps are different.

The linocut itself measures 14" x 23", (35 cm x 60cm )
and the beautiful piece of vintage sea chart
measures approx 27" x 20", (70cm x 50cm)

Linocuts are wonderful graphic pieces of printmaking, that can make for a real focal point in your room, you are so welcome to ask me about framing advice etc. The home interior photos might not be entirely to scale.
