Memory of the Mirror (2023)Oil painting by Natalia Yampolskaia
80 x 80 x 2cm (unframed) / 80 x 80cm (actual image size)
£1,964.93
Original artwork description
“Memory of the Mirror” is the first painting in the “Don’t Look” series, exploring femininity, inner presence, and the multiplicity of identity.
The figure appears divided, reflected, and simultaneously losing wholeness. The flowing lines of the body intertwine and dissolve, like an image in a mirror that preserves memory but offers no stability. Deep blue tones evoke introspection, silence, and intuition, while warm ochre and fiery accents introduce tension and the energy of transformation.
Cracks within the textured surface symbolize fragility of perception and the fragmentation of the self. Presence in this work is not asserted through direct gaze, but experienced through reflection — an existence that does not seek to be confirmed by the viewer.
The painting has been exhibited multiple times in European exhibitions and received high critical acclaim within contemporary art projects focused on femininity and identity.
The artwork is available for purchase individually or as part of the “Don’t Look” series.
