Memento vivere (2025)Acrylic painting by Kiro

60 x 50 x 1cm (unframed) / 60 x 50cm (actual image size)

£594.99

This is a work that invites reflection on life and death, on the fleeting nature of existence and the search for meaning. The black background, symbolizing death and absence, is animated by a monkey moving a circle with its paws, creating an enigmatic and evocative image. The monkey, symbol of intelligence and creativity, represents life and its energy. The circle, symbol of eternity and cycle, is the movement of life itself, which continues to flow despite the presence of death. The three skulls surrounding the monkey are a memento mori, a reminder of mortality and the transience of existence. But the writing "Memento Vivere", which means "Remember to live", urges not to be overwhelmed by the fear of death, but to live intensely every moment. The title of the work is a play on words with the more well-known "Memento Mori", which means "Remember that you will die". But here the artist wants to emphasize the importance of living in the present, enjoying life, and not letting fear of death paralyze us. The monkey moving the circle is a symbol of this philosophy, an invitation to live every moment with joy and awareness.
