This painting is inspired by a fountain mascaron with a triton's head located in Paris, France.
Carved ornaments for windows, doors, archways, fountains, or bridges, mascarons are frightening masks that chase away evil spirits or represent deities, elements, seasons, illustrating the attributes and temperament of a house. Originally from Italy, they arrived in France in the 16th century, and many can be found in Paris, Strasbourg, Bordeaux, Nantes, and more. I found it interesting to reinterpret these forgotten Renaissance gems in painting and show how they can find their place in our modern lives.
For this painting, I accentuated the sprawling and irritating nature of the drawing and emphasized the dark red lines on a cream background to make it even more vibrant.
It's unique! Its edges are painted, so it doesn't require framing and it's ready to hang! It's signed on the front (bottom right), dated and named on the back, and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
