Original artwork description:

This painting is inspired by a mascaron from the Croix du Trahoir fountain in Paris, France. Carved ornaments for windows, doors, archways, fountains, or bridges, mascarons are frightening masks that ward off evil spirits, or representations of deities, elements, and seasons, displaying the attributes and temperament of a house. Originally from Italy, they arrived in France in the 16th century, and many can be found in Paris, Strasbourg, Bordeaux, Nantes, and more. I found it interesting to reinterpret these forgotten Renaissance gems in painting and show that they can have a place in our modern lives. This is definitely a dog's head. Since the subject is rather aggressive, I chose to use soft, soothing colors on a green or gray background. This gives it an ironic touch. It's unique! Its edges are painted, so it doesn't require framing and it's ready to hang! It's signed on the front (bottom right), dated and named on the back, and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
