Original artwork description:

This painting is inspired by a mascaron of Bacchus located on the Place du Château in Strasbourg, France.
Carved ornaments for windows, doors, archways, fountains, or bridges, mascarons are frightening masks that ward off evil spirits or represent deities, elements, and seasons, illustrating the attributes and character of a house. Originally from Italy, they arrived in France in the 16th century, and many can be found in Paris, Strasbourg, Bordeaux, and Nantes. I found it interesting to reinterpret these forgotten Renaissance gems in painting and show how they can find their place in our modern lives.
With touches of blue and red on an ochre background, this canvas is very generous and sunny. These colors are those of French Provence!
It's unique! Its edges are painted, so it doesn't require framing and it's ready to hang! It's signed on the front (bottom right), dated and named on the back, and comes with a certificate of authenticity.

Materials used:

Oil on canvas
