“Magma” is the opening painting of the “Earth’s Heart” series, through which the artist invites viewers to reflect on the physicality of matter. Magma originates from a profound personal experience. It is not a work conceived through rational planning, but one that “emerged” almost unconsciously after her return from a short holiday on the Island of Elba.
On a beach with pale sand, she noticed a black stone flecked with ochre, red, and golden spots—traces of the abundant iron in that part of the island. Observing these striking stones, with their dark surfaces and orange-golden highlights, she imagined their history: having emerged from the earth’s core thousands of years ago through the movements of the crust.
This vision became the genesis of Magma, along with the idea of offering the buyer one of the stones that inspired it.
