Acrylic on Paper | Framed 40 × 30 cm | Original Painting
Low Fitzroy 987 — Selsey Bill

Low Fitzroy 987 takes its title from the shipping forecast, referencing a recorded pressure system rather than a single moment in time. Horizontal bands of colour move steadily through the composition, shifting from open blues and turquoise into warmer oranges and deeper, earthier tones. Areas of textured and cracked paint introduce a sense of weathering, suggesting accumulated time and changing conditions within an otherwise ordered structure.

The painting balances clarity and variation, with strong linear elements softened by surface detail and tonal shifts. References to horizon, sea, and land remain implied, allowing the work to exist between abstraction and atmosphere rather than fixed place.

The clear horizontal rhythm gives the painting a calm, composed presence. Its balance of colour and texture makes it easy to live with, offering visual interest without noise and revealing more of its surface detail the longer it is viewed.
