Lotus Pond in Kerala, India (2022)Oil painting by Zurab Sharvadze

This painting came into existence during a quiet stay in Kerala, India, in 2022, when I accompanied my wife to a secluded Ayurvedic clinic deep in the jungle. Each morning, just outside our room, a lotus pond unfolded like a living meditation—still water, drifting light, and wide green leaves floating in calm silence. The place had a rhythm of its own, shaped by nature, ritual, and time slowing down. I found myself returning to this pond again and again with my brushes, compelled to capture its changing moods.

What inspired me most was the atmosphere rather than the view alone: the layered greens of the tropical foliage, the reflections dissolving into color, and the sense of quiet presence that filled the air. Painting it felt less like observation and more like participation in that stillness.

This work is special because it is part of a personal series devoted to this hidden pond—each canvas a different conversation with the same place. It carries the memory of travel, companionship, and creative retreat, preserving a moment when life felt suspended between movement and peace.
