Original artwork description
The quadriptych unfolds as an abstract “topography of memory”: the vertical sunflower stems are laid out like cross-sections of a landscape, each seed head serving as a nodal point of experience and displacement. The voids—burned holes in one of the blooms—act as perforations of a traumatic wound: bullet holes symbolizing lives lost and the irretrievable rupture in the body of the nation. The canvas becomes both map and scar: here, material and emptiness engage in dialogue, transforming trauma into generative soil for “new growth” and collective awareness.
This work will be presented at a personal exhibition at the Shevchenko National Museum in Kyiv in the fall of 2025.
The works are stretched on a frame, covered with matte varnish and ready for hanging.
My work here is a single copy of my unique and original handiwork. It is made on special, high-quality 100% cotton paper designed for watercolor from the world’s best manufacturers and has a density of 300 grams/meter.
