Original artwork description
Gazing down down of the rooftops of Hull. A row of town houses appears to shrink like an accordion. I was born here, memories that are half a century old. There is a strong sun, the white stucco reflects back. Hull triggers memories. Smells of yeasty baking bread, tart vinegar and frying chips, the screeching of gulls and the rumble of trucks. Each corner has meaning, memories of pantomimes and toy shops, department stores once plush now derelict. Hull is part of my life. This view is striking and unusual, the realism satisfying, the light and shadow present and evocative. The work is on a 0.4 inch deep canvas and can therefore hang without the need for framing if wished. A perfect souvenir, a great gift, a wonderful collection starter.
