Long way (2024) Original Oil Painting by Alena Kuschnereit

Water is journey. It carries us away and connects us at the same time. Always in motion, never truly still – just like life in migration.

Fish are memory. They swim on, generation after generation, carrying within them what must not be forgotten: stories, scents, voices, the language of their origins.

When I speak about women's migration, it's not just about external movement. Women carry culture; they are often the guardians of family history. Memory lives on within them – in rituals, in language, in everyday actions. They take all of this with them, even when they leave their homeland.

Migration means leaving one's own world and yet not losing it. It means detaching oneself from familiar ground and immersing oneself in a new element. Adapting, learning to breathe under different conditions, reshaping oneself.

It is a transition: between farewell and new beginning, between being a stranger and arriving. Integration is not an end, but a constant process of discovery – a struggle between what remains and what is allowed to emerge.
