This lyrical, abstract painting was inspired by an exploration of the theme of love. As a therapist with a particular interest in relationships, I work with many clients who present with limerence, a kind of hopelessly obsessional love of of another person which is usually not reciprocated. Limerence is more than having a bit of a crush; it is a mental state of obsession, feverish yearning and avoidance of reality and it usually interferes with the limerent person’s daily life. All past and present encounters with the object of your desire are overinterpreted and viewed through a romantic lens which confirms your limerent object’s desire for you. You find yourself constantly scanning for confirmation that your limerent object is indeed interested in you. Limerent people find themselves day dreaming and fantasising endlessly about the objects of their desire: what might do and how they might respond to your confessions of love.
In this painting I explore the tenderness, vulnerability and delicacy that the experience of limerence evokes.
The canvas has been painted around the edges in a complementary colour. Hooks and cord are attached at the back – the painting is ready for hanging.
The painting comes with a signed certificate of authenticity. Please note that the image of the painting in a home interior is for demonstration purposes only and not to scale.
